History of Company

Art of Stone first began trading in 1990, originally making sandstone sculptures (hence the name) and selling them at Paddington Markets. Art of Stone(AOS) started making metal stands to support these sculptures and began making candelabras. The candelabras were a huge hit and during the early 1990's the company expanded to a very well exposed site on New South Head Road in Edgecliff.

Around 1993 the company expanded its product range from wrought iron candelabras to beds and furniture, and begun offering balustrades, handrails and gates. In other words 'all things metal or 'wrought iron'.

Then in 1995 the company set up a factory in Botany and opened retail stores around Australia. These stores provided Art of Stone with a great deal of brand awareness, particulary in Sydney, and the company became well known for producing high end, quality niche products to the homeware/home improvement market. Its exclusive range of wrought iron beds are well known to the market.

Also during this time the balustrade and security division experienced strong growth. Most projects have been in the North Shore and Eastern Suburbs with a good reputation built with architects and interior designers.

In early 2002 the company acquired the exclusive rights to manufacture and distribute a patented metal plantation security shutter system in Sydney. The company's growing focus on manufacturing led to the decision to exit retail in early 2003. The company still makes wrought iron beds and furniture but distributes directly from the factory to the public and distributes a range of beds wholesale through 'David Jones' in Sydney and 'Adairs' in Melbourne.

Persuant to this strategy, in early 2003 the company acquired the nonexclusive rights to manufacture and distribute 'SupaScreen' in Sydney.

ART OF STONE WILL CONTINUE TO SEEK PRODUCTS WHICH IT CAN MANUFACTURE, OR ADD VALUE TO, AND DISTRIBUTE TO THE SYDNEY MARKET.
